Bali

The original Bumi Sehat clinic is located in the village of Nyuh Kuning, outside of Ubud, Bali in Indonesia.  The community health center has 2 birthing rooms, a postpartum recovery area, and 3 general health treatment areas.  Through a variety of weekly clinics, ongoing birth services and 24-hour a day emergency health services, the Bali clinic provides approximately 9,000 consultations and more than 550 births per year.

As a popular tourist destination, Bali was economically devastated by the 2002 and 2004 Bali bombings (due to the resulting decline in tourism).  Currently, Bali’s economy is also suffering from the worldwide economic crisis that further restricts local tourism.  The majority of families living in Bali are economically dependent on local tourism and therefore, the numbers of families living in poverty has subsequently increased over the past 7 years.  Many families are unable to pay for health services, and without access to affordable health services, many individuals would not be able to receive treatment for health problems.

In addition, Bumi Sehat is currently raising funds to build a larger, purpose-built facility that will allow us to see more patients.
